What is Mediation?

01 October 2025

Mediation is an alternative dispute resolution method in which parties resolve a dispute without going to court, with the help of a neutral third party (the mediator).

Core Principles of Mediation

Voluntariness: Parties participate of their own free will and may withdraw at any time.

Confidentiality: Information shared during sessions cannot be disclosed to third parties.

Impartiality: The mediator is neutral and does not favour either party.

Speed: Concluded much faster compared to court proceedings.

How Does the Mediation Process Work?

  1. One of the parties applies for mediation.
  2. A mediator is appointed and the first session is scheduled.
  3. Parties present their views; the mediator facilitates communication.
  4. If an agreement is reached, a record is signed; if not, the process ends.

In Which Disputes Is It Used?

  • Employment law (reinstatement, severance pay)
  • Commercial disputes
  • Rental and property law
  • Consumer disputes
